Amina Maalim

Amina Aden Maalim is a female research scientist currently working with the National Forestry Research Institute in Kenya known as KEFRI. She is based in the Garissa office but works in the whole of the Northern region in the drylands of Kenya which accommodates the largest pastoral population in Kenya. She has both local and international research experiences. Her expertise is in Agroforestry and sustainable  rural development and is currently the only female forestry research scientist in the whole of the North-Eastern region of Kenya. She has a Master of Science in Agroforestry from Bangor University, North Wales, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Science in Agroforestry and rural development from the University of Kabianga in Kericho, Kenya. She plans to start a Ph.D. in Climate change adaptation in September 2022 at the University of Nairobi (with research focusing on the triple nexus of Gender, Forestry, and Climate change), she is also an IUFRO taskforce member that is looking at “Transforming Forest landscape for future climates and human well-being“.
