Dr. Agus Justianto has dedicated his professional career as civil servant for the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia since 1986. Currently, he is a Senior Policy Analyst following his appointment as a Director General of Sustainable Forest Management, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (2021-2024); In 2018 – 2021, he was a Director General of Forestry and Environment Research, Development and Innovation Agency; In 2015 – 2018 he was a Senior Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Forestry on Natural Resources Economics; In 2019, he was appointed as an Acting Director General of Climate Change, in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Previously, he held senior positions as Director of Forest Utilization Planning (2010 – 2012); and Director of Forest Products Processing and Marketing (2015); as well as Director of Forestry Training Center (2012 – 2015). Recently, he is also appointed as Vice Chairman of Indonesia FOLU Net Sink 2030 and Chairman of International Peatland Center.
He completed his undergraduate studies on forestry at IPB University in 1986, returning to earn a PhD in Agriculture Economics in 2005. In between, he earned a Master degree on Natural Resources at the University of New England in Australia in 1992. He actively involved at various fora on environmental and forestry issues including international negotiations and meetings, i.e. UNFF, UNEA, UNFCCC. Currently having position as Secretary of Advisory Board for Climate Change Policies. He was a Chairman of Indonesian National Forestry Council (2011-2016). In addition to his past membership on various forestry working groups, he was a member of Indonesia National Research Council; a Common Board Member of CIFOR-ICRAF. Currently, he is a Member of International Union of Forest Research Organization (IUFRO) Council and a Member of the Steering Committee of International Resource Panel, UN Environment as well as Leader of two ASEAN mechanisms for Senior Officials — Forestry (ASOF) and the Environment (ASOEN).
