Backing biodiversity: Financing forests & trees
CIFOR-ICRAF at UNCBD COP16
21 Oct – 1 Nov 2024, Cali, ColombiaNurturing Intergenerational Collaboration with Youth for National Biodiversity Governance & Action
Over the past months, as a commitment after the approval of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM GBF), a number of countries have been working on the updating process of NBSAPs with a more inclusive approach involving Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women and particularly, youth. More and more countries are inviting young people not only to participate in their NBSAP updating process but to support consultations and engagement in other national biodiversity-related processes.
In this regard, the national chapters of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) have been setting an example of ways of collaboration between national governments and their country’s youth. These spaces have worked to not only improve youth participation in biodiversity decision making processes, but also to strengthen national positions and workplans for the implementation of the NBSAPs and the KM GBF in extension.
In this side event, we will create a space for reflective and open dialogue among youth participants and governments to share experiences and best practices on intergenerational collaboration for biodiversity. This will serve as an opportunity to work toward improving this joint effort to achieve living in harmony with nature through a youth-responsive and whole-of-society approach to biodiversity governance and action.
