We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and
restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short,
improving people’s lives.
The second part of the 15th Conference of the Parties of the UNCBD (COP 15) takes place in December 2022. The key objective of the conference is to adopt the post-2020 global biodiversity framework that defines targets and pathways for the sustainable use of biodiversity for the coming decade.
This side event will explore participatory opportunities to promote sustainable solutions to wild meat consumption in different contexts. The SWM Programme will present the progress being made towards the implementation of the Decision 14/7 on sustainable wildlife management and the Voluntary Guidance for a sustainable wild meat sector adopted by UNCBD COP14. The discussions will be enriched by the SWM Programme initial work on the development of indicators that measure sustainability, legality and safety of harvest, use and trade in wild species (across all taxa). This includes species hunted for their meat.
The theme for this side event is “Future Mountains in the post 2020 global biodiversity framework” and will include four topics: (1) ecological restoration and dual-carbon economy, (2) germplasm resources and seed industry technology, (3) Ethnobotany and traditional utilization, and (4) urban-rural industrial chain construction and benefit-sharing.
This side event will showcase work by the members of the CPW and its partners that illustrates the dependence of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities on wild species; the various forms of benefit they derive from these resources; how sustainable use of wild species contributes to enhancing the benefits to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities and conserving the ecosystems and species involved; and how the traditional knowledge and practices of these communities support and enhance these efforts.
This side-event will emphasize the vital roles of science and climate finance in accelerating investments in NbS. The session will officially launch the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and CIFOR-ICRAF partnership in Resilient Landscapes, demonstrating ways in which high-quality impact investment can be stimulated, to strengthen Luxembourg’s positioning as a global NbS investing hub.
