About the project
CIFOR and partners implemented the Scaling Jurisdictional Approaches in the Indonesian Palm Oil Sector research project to enhance the ‘readiness’ of palm oil producing jurisdictions to implement durable jurisdictional programs (JPs). Project activities were carried out in:
- Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan in partnership with the University of Palangka Raya;
- Pelalawan Regency, Riau in partnership with Jikalahari;
- Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan in partnership with the University of Palangka Raya;
- Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan in partnership with FKMS (Forum Komunikasi Masyarakat Sintang).
The project, which was supported by the Walmart Foundation and ran from 2019 to 2024, adopted a participatory, multistakeholder and inclusive approach, drawing on lessons learned by CIFOR and other stakeholders. The project had three outcomes targeted for achievement by producing five main outputs through the following three work packages:
- A comparative analysis of antecedent conditions
- The co-design of a Theory of Change (ToC), Theory of Action (ToA), and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (MEF) for each regency
- The co-design of a national-level Theory of Change (ToC), Theory of Action (ToA), and Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (MEF), and outreach.
