CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Descriptions

This project is aimed at supporting the World Bank task team in delivering the PROGREEN-financed technical assistance for improving landscape management in the Congo-Nile Ridge region in Rwanda. The development objective of the PROGREEN TA grant is to identify, and design incentive mechanisms and to develop technical readiness for improved landscape management, biodiversity conservation, nature-based solutions and livelihood development. The overall scope of this consultant assignment is to improve knowledge on what is required to improve landscape management in the CNR and to enhance local readiness for improved practices. This will include activities in: (i) Tree improvement including recommending improvements in the productivity (i.e., addressing, among others, low stocking of existing forests and poor quality of genetic material) of current privately and publicly owned forests; (ii) Management planning in state-owned forests to map these forests, assess their ecological status and develop a management plan with identification of priority actions; (iii) Development planning in the islands of the Lake Kivu and selected high priority areas; and (iv) Developing stakeholders’ incentives and appropriate financing mechanisms.
