CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Description

The Center of Excellence for a Central African Forest Observatory project (OFAC-CE) supports the strengthening of knowledge and capacities of the Center of Excellence. This is done through different sectoral approaches and existing programs with the aim of rationalizing, aligning and deepen EU support for STI in Africa through strategic and coherent intervention.

The project builds on previous projects RIOFAC 1 and 2 that supported the Central Africa Forest Observatory (OFAC). In this new project, OFAC fully exercises the role of Center of Excellence within COMIFAC, through the provision of credible information generated and updated on the forest ecosystems of Central Africa with a view to their sustainable management and in response to requests by users.

The ultimate objective of the project is that forest ecosystems of Central Africa are preserved, and contribute to the well-being of the populations who depend on them and of all humanity, thanks to management made sustainable by decision-making based on credible and regularly updated information.

OFAC-CE is part of a wider program to establish centers of Excellences in the African continent including the support to two other observatories for West Africa (OBAPAO) and, East and South Africa (RCMRD).
