CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Descriptions

FAO's flagship publication "The State of the World's Forests" (SOFO) is published every two years, presenting thematic data and analysis on the interaction between forests and people. SOFO complements the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA), published every five years.

The upcoming SOFO 2022 will focus on a review of pathways towards better lives and a better environment by building more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable green economies based on forests and trees in the context of green recovery. SOFO 2022 will be launched at the XV World Forestry Congress (WFC) "Building a Green, Healthy and Resilient Future with Forests" in May 2022 and will be discussed at COFO26 in October 2022. The desired outcome of SOFO 2022 is a shift in the global development paradigm in support of forests and trees. Findings of SOFO 2022 should spur policy dialogue on pathways and actions that maintain and use forests and trees to solve a range of global climate, biodiversity and health crises, and help achieve key SDGs, including SDGs 1, 2 and 10.

SOFO 2022 is prepared in close collaboration with key partners and data providers, including CIFOR and ICRAF. Through this project CIFOR and ICRAF contribute to the generation of existing agroforestry, green recovery and green economy-related data and analysis for key chapters of SOFO 2022.
