CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Description

The World Mangrove Centers (WMC) has the vision of having healthy and sustainably managed mangrove ecosystems that provide services for sustainable livelihoods (food, health, energy), programmes for climate mitigation (reduced emissions), adaptation (protection against sea level rise, storm surges, erosion), and responses to other natural disasters.

The establishment of the WMC was initiated by the Government of Germany (BMZ) and the government of Indonesia (MoEF). The WMC initiative arose because of the need to consolidate the many efforts to sustainably rehabilitate and manage mangrove forests. WMC has mission to become an international cooperation hub that promotes sustainable mangrove management by connecting, coordinating, and collaborating different stakeholders in all level, sectors and across nations. WMC will support Indonesia in its ambition to serve and share experiences in mangrove rehabilitation and conservation actions as well as collaborate with global stakeholders to save the world's mangroves.

The goal of the consultancy is to support The Government of Indonesian in the establishment of a World Mangrove Centre (WMC) in Indonesia that serves as:
1. Reliable Science-based mitigation and adaptation center of excellent supporting the implementation of NDC towards SDG;
2. Clearing House of reliable database and information on mangroves that are acknowledged by all parties in the world;
3. International network to provide access on mangrove ecosystem research and to promote sustainable mangrove management by connecting, coordinating, and collaborating different stakeholder in all levels, sectors and across nations.

An Advisory Team, consisting of representatives from CIFOR (lead), ITTO, and ZMT will work very closely with the representatives of the Pusat Standardisasi Instrument Pengelolaan Hutan (PSIPH) as Project Executing Agency (PEA).
