CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Descriptions

The overall objective of the project is to develop balanced fertilizer and integrated soil fertility management recommendations targeted at specific crops, under specific soil and agroclimatic conditions that will sustainably increase yields and nutritional quality and result in increased yields on fertilizer investments. The specific objectives of the project are to (i) map soils in the main targeted agricultural areas, (ii) develop fertilizer and soil fertility management recommendations for farmers, fertilizer industry and other stakeholders, (iii) strengthen the capacity of national agricultural institutions to conduct soil fertility diagnostics and fertilizer recommendations, and (vi) raise awareness among stakeholders, in particular the fertilizer industry and farmers' associations, on the importance of increasing access to and use of appropriate fertilizers and associated good agronomic practices.

ICRAF Supports implementation of the project through 6 work packages:
Component A - Mapping key soil properties, yield potential, nutrients, and soil
Component B - Soil Sampling and Analysis
Component C - Randomized controlled trials of crop response to fertilizers
Component D - Capacity-building and training
Component E - Project management and coordination support
