Description
Solutions for Integrated Land and Seascape Management in Indonesia (SOLUSI), also known as Land and Seascape Solutions for Indonesia (LASSO) is a five-year project aimed at mitigating the degradation of land and seascapes in Indonesia by enhancing ecosystem resilience and promoting livelihoods that are resilient to climate change. Working with national, subnational and local stakeholders, SOLUSI will improve spatial and development planning by incorporating principles of both green and blue economies. These include the protection, restoration and management of natural and semi-natural ecosystems; addressing water pollution; the promotion of sustainable business models; ecotourism and integrated waste management in ecotourism sites; access to sustainable finance; and supply chain partnerships.
Funded by the German Government, the project applies a land-to-seascape integrated “From Ridge to Reef” approach in its interventions at both national and regional levels. SOLUSI promotes inclusive and innovative sustainable strategies and actions in related sectors, including agroforestry, aquaculture and sustainable tourism; integrated waste management in ecotourism areas; and the promotion of sustainable business and finance models. In close coordination with Indonesia’s Ministry of National Development Planning (BAPPENAS), ICRAF, together with GIZ, KEHATI and SNV, works in Central Java, Bangka Belitung Archipelago and Central Sulawesi Province. Like the diverse archipelago, these locations have varied stages of conservation, restoration and socioeconomic development, coastal-marine resource management and land-use change dynamics.
