Descriptions
The project seeks to promote climate smart agriculture through adoption of various approaches, The approaches include:
- agroforestry approaches for carbon adaptation, mitigation and crop productivity
- irrigation for crop drought resilience, better growth of trees with increasing tree biomass for more carbon storage and crops resistant to drought to increase resilience to climate change and crop productivity.
With the above approaches, the Project strengthens resilience, food security and improve livelihoods of farmers vulnerable to climate change.
The project focuses on the most drought prone areas of the country (Eastern Province) including the buffer zones of Akagera National Park (which extends to Nyagatare, Gatsibo and Kayonza) and Kirehe Districts.
