The Trade, Development and the Environment Hub (TRADE Hub) project is a research network led by the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre. It aims to overcome interacting challenges in agricultural commodities and wildlife trade. The project will run for 5 years (February 2019-February 2024).
Indonesia is a focus location of the hub. Activities here are led by CIFOR with partner organizations (ICRAF, WCS, RCCC UI, IPB and Unila). The TRADE Hub Indonesia will focus on trade in two agricultural commodities (palm oil and coffee), as well as wildlife (songbirds). The main goal of TRADE Hub Indonesia is to gain benefits for the country from the global trade of palm oil and coffee, while reducing impacts on high-risk forested landscapes and their rural communities.
Research activities within TRADE Hub Indonesia are located in four main landscapes: Aceh Province (surrounding Leuseur Ecosystem), the southern part of Sumatra Island (area surrounding Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park), West Kalimantan Province and West Papua Province.
As part of the global Trade Hub program, CIFOR colleagues in the Democratic Republic of Congo focus on wildlife trade in the Congo Basin.
