Description
Dr Seol's Secondment aims to support the ongoing collaborative research and potential ones between CIFOR and NIFoS, the Republic of Korea. Both organizations have conducted the joint research in several areas, including climate change, sustainable forest management, forest landscape restoration, biomass energy and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions caused by Deforestation and forest Degradation) policies. Moreover, the socioeconomic and environmental outcomes of bioenergy production on degraded and under-utilized land, such as ex-burned peatlands in Sumatra, Kalimantan, or in other Indonesian territories, have been examined and further evaluation is being carried out. The results from the collaborative research are expected to contribute to building strategies for sustainable management of peatlands and other degraded areas to be productive energy smart ecosystems. This project will inform and shape key development policy processes, such as sustainable peatland management, green growth in Kalimantan and south Sumatra provinces, and priorities of Official Development Assistance of Republic of Korea.
