Description

ln 2021, IKEA launched the 2030 Forest Ambition. As part of the Ambition, IKEA sets a plan to support the rights of people who are engaged in and depend on forestry value chains. IKEA intends to strengthen the plan and is reaching out to partners to research this topic. IKEA wishes to focus on a value chains analysis of rattan from where they are harvested to the nearest ports in Sulawesi and Kalimantan. The Project's main objective is to assess and understand the value chain structures, finances and livelihood conditions of rattan farmers, harvesters, and intermediaries from the place where rattan is harvested to the port. The overall method is comprised of three steps: First, identify the actors within the value chain. Second, evaluate income and profit at each level of the chain. Third, evaluate the distribution of income and profit within each group along the chain. Data is collected from secondary sources where they are available, and through key informant interviews, household surveys, and focus groups. Respondents are those directly involved in the Kalimantan and Sulawesi-based portions of the value chains, which is assumed to include rattan harvester/farmers, farm-gate buyers/intermediaries, and pole processors and traders.
