Descriptions
ICRAF supports the Royal Hersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RJA&HS) in implementing the project Capacity development for agroforestry and climate smart agricultural practices for improved dairy production in Gatsibo District, Rwanda
The activities focus on three outcome areas:
1. SME pastoral farmer support;
2. Training of pastoral farmers; and
3. Upscaling climate smart practices.
The training links into other trainings and interventions rolled out by the overall project, ensuring farmers are provided with holistic information and support to improve dairy production. This project enables the targeted dairy farmers in Gatsibo District to take full advantage of the improved genetic potential of their cows through improved feeding, water management, and manure utilisation practices which are well matched to their respective farming systems and both the current and anticipated impacts of climate change to experience higher milk yields and, in turn, realise improved incomes and nutritional outcomes.
