CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Description

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has highlighted the importance of climate change mitigation measures in the land sector. The transformational change that is needed in how agricultural and forestry production - and ecosystems - are managed is a formidable task. Unsustainable land use and food production, and deforestation need to be stopped. Ecosystem-based adaptation and restoration are urgent, and will require coordination and collaboration across actors and sectors like never before.

Forest and land conservation, restoration of ecosystems and their services, and improved, sustainable land management are central to addressing the global climate challenge under the Paris Agreement . These efforts provide key nature-based solutions without which it will be impossible to keep global warming below 2°C. The climate, ecosystems and biodiversity challenges overlap considerably in terms of drivers and solutions. Nature-based solutions link the climate crisis to ecosystem services and biodiversity.

The objective of this assignment is to support the operationalization of Green Climate Fund's (GCF) sectoral guidance on forests and land use and ecosystems and ecosystems services in relation to structuring a transformational global coalition. This will, in turn, support the GCF's paradigm shift objective toward low-emission and climate-resilient development, specifically across the landscape.
