CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Descriptions

This project supports the assessment of current knowledge and research gaps on wild meat value chains in the Asia-Pacific region. The project contributes to the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31 and its Priority Programme Areas (PPAs): Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Better Environment (BE3), One Health in Better Production (BP3), and Nutrition for the most vulnerable in Better Nutrition (BN2).

In this project CIFOR-ICRAF aims to develop the capacities of actors to apply, adapt and accompany at local, national, regional and/or international level the models, tools and approaches . At Regionallevel, the Project aims to leverage and compare lessons learned and information gathered from country Projects, as well as regional analyses. To achieve this the project works with key regional stakeholder to inform the participatory strategic development of a fully-fledged SWM Programme in the Asia-Pacific region.

This project includes a series of regional analyses on wild meat use, consumption, and zoonotic risks across the region, aiming to:
• Provide an overview of wild meat use, its drivers and its variations across the region;
• Understand the livelihood, nutrition, and One Health impacts of wild meat use;
• Provide an overview of past and current interventions that have aimed to reduce or sustainably manage wild meat use in the region, and their impacts;
• Provide a regional gap analysis: identifying areas where further information on wild meat use is required in terms of policy and practice and where, given the above regional analyses, future intervention efforts should be targeted.

The resulting assessment provides recommendations for addressing priority research and implementation gaps, further informing the design and scope of future interventions of the SWM Programme in the Asia-Pacific region.
