CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Description

In 2017, the Forestry Department of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) together with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) engaged a wide range of senior experts. The aim was to explore and provide strategic advice on structuring the paradigm shift and transformational potential of policies related to forestry and other land uses. The program would inform formulation and implementation of projects and programs leading to low-carbon and climate-resilient development pathways.

The work focuses on generating new knowledge to inform and facilitate approaches to transformational change, the assessment of policy design at country level, and the evaluation of the impacts of REDD+ policies, programs and interventions. The joint work informs the Global Climate Fund on the conceptualization of transformational change. It also contributes to achieving results in the broader context of landscape management, livelihood objectives and equity considerations. The program links to Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9 and 12, ensuring its relevance to emerging discussions in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
