CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Trees, Forests and water: Cool insights for a hot world

ICRAF Chief Scientist Dr Meine van Noordwijk talks about a review paper: Trees, Forests and water: Cool insights for a hot world conducted by nearly 30 scientists around the world with an important message to the global climate community: lets think of rainfall and water as the first thing when we hear forests and trees and look at the importance of that at the scale of continents and at the scale of countries way beyond the relevance of the carbon story that we have so far seen translated into climate policy. The way we look at forests must have more of the micro climate elements– temperature, rainfall – than what has been translated to climate policy so far".
