The New Forest People: Socio-environmental challenges of palm oil production in the Eastern Amazon

Palm oil production has been one of the most controversial issues in tropical countries. In Brazil, the government has launched the Sustainable Palm Oil Production Program (SPOPP) in 2010 to stimulate oil palm expansion in the Amazon while minimizing its socio-environmental risks.
