CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

More than GDP: Robert Costanza on the value of ecosystem services and human wellbeing

Prof Robert Costanza of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the Australian National University explains the importance of accounting for humanity's debt to nature as well as human wellbeing. He claims Gross Domestic Product or GDP is not an adequate measure and instead posits Genuine Progress Indicator or GPI. He was interviewed on the sidelines of the 6th Ecosystem Services Partnership conference in Bali, Indonesia, 26-30 August 2013, where he was a keynote speaker.
