CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

An estimated 83 % of people in the Congo Basin rely on charcoal and firewood for their cooking and energy needs. The trade is a major contributor to deforestation - a driver of climate change - and at the same time, those involved are vulnerable to changes in the climate. CIFOR is examining how people in the charcoal trade, and the natural resource itself, are affected by climate change. This video introduces some of the people making a living from the trade in Cameroon.Copyright permission for music "Ossone" by Cameroonian artist Sally Nyolo obtained from Skycap Music. For more stories from the Congo Basin, visit http://blog.cifor.org/congo
