Franciany Braga Pereira shared her insight on how economic growth could affect wild meat practices

On the sidelines of the session, Franciany Braga-Pereira, a PhD student at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, shared her insight on how economic growth could affect wild meat practices in Guyana. Wild meat is an important source of food for many communities, but must be managed sustainably. At the European Conference of Tropical Ecology hosted at the University of Lisbon, researchers from around the world gathered at the session “Towards sustainable, equitable and safe wildmeat use in Tropical and sub-tropical countries: opportunities, lessons learnt, obstacles and risks” on 14 February to discuss wild meat practices and what they mean for health, the environment, and communities.
