Steve Lansing on Bali's world heritage cultural landscape: keynote address

Dr Steve Lansing, University of Arizona, explains Bali's 'subak' ricefield irrigation system that has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape status. The 1000-year-old system is threatened by its own popularity, with over two million visitors a year fuelling developments that are pushing the system to the brink of collapse. He was giving the opening keynote address at the 6th Annual International Ecosystem Services Partnership conference in Bali, Indonesia, 26-30 August 2013.
