CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Guiding Principles for Delivering Coastal Wetland Carbon Projects

This presentation was given at a COP20 side-event titled "Guiding Principles for Delivering Coastal Wetland Carbon Projects" in Lima, Peru. It was presented by moderator Daniel Murdiyarso and rapporteur Kristell Hergoualc'h. Coastal wetland ecosystems play a significant role in sequestering and storing carbon in biomass and soils. These ecosystems, however, are facing tremendous pressure and large portion of them are already degraded due to unsustainable cuttings and aquaculture development. This panel discussed options for policy and practice for improving sustainability and realizing the full mitigation and adaptation potential of coastal wetland ecosystems.
