CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

This document summarizes the objectives, components, and progress of a project aimed at enhancing groundnut productivity in drought-prone areas of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The project involves farmer-participatory varietal selection in 7 partner countries. Key components include varietal selection trials, farmer awareness activities, seed support, infrastructure development, and capacity building. Trials conducted in multiple regions of India identified farmer-preferred varieties. Breeding programs made progress in developing new varieties with disease resistance and drought tolerance. Lessons learned include the need for contingency planning to address weather variability impacts on rainfed crops.
