Session 3.2 a tool for more sustainable fuel use in india

This document discusses using carbon finance as a tool to promote more sustainable fuel use through cookstove projects in India. It notes that over 60% of households in India rely on solid fuels for cooking and are dependent on wood for 93% of their energy needs. Carbon finance is being applied in some cookstove projects to help reach low-income populations. The document identifies barriers to applying carbon finance, such as high upfront investment needs, and complexity. It concludes that carbon finance is one approach that can help scale up cookstove adoption among low-income households in India, but will require diversified strategies and enabling support factors to be effective.
