Découvrez les évènements passés et à venir dans le monde entier et en ligne, qu’ils soient organisés par le CIFOR-ICRAF ou auxquels participent nos chercheurs.

CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

An exploration of evergreen agriculture approaches for scaling up in East Africa

Evergreen agriculture integrates trees and annual crops to maintain green cover year-round. This project explored scaling up evergreen approaches in East Africa. It found that: 1) Conservation agriculture with trees in Machakos, Kenya generated higher maize yields and more soil moisture than without trees. 2) Close tree spacings stored more moisture but reduced yields, while Calliandra calothyrsus spaced at 3m performed best. 3) Tree biomass provided fodder, fuelwood and stakes. 4) Community-based extension like Landcare may be better for scaling integrated natural resource management than individual training.
