Session 3.3 indigenous trees incubators in kenya

This document summarizes a presentation on establishing Indigenous Trees Incubators in Kenya's various agro-ecological zones. The incubators aim to conserve indigenous tree species while commercializing their nutritional products to improve human health. A seven-step strategy is outlined that involves ethnobotanical surveys, germplasm conservation, identifying desirable traits, developing propagation protocols, regenerating indigenous trees, creating nutritional products, and benefit sharing. The initiative would be piloted at two KARI centers and later scaled up across Africa through collaboration between research institutions, private companies, and Ivory Consult Ltd. The incubators present an innovative approach to fighting poverty and disease by combining science, business and local communities.
