CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Sustainable Land Management for enhanced agricultural production in Rwanda

This document summarizes sustainable land management efforts in Rwanda. It notes that Rwanda has a high population growth rate and density, declining food production, and widespread land degradation. Efforts are underway by the government and partnerships to promote sustainable land management practices through policies, training extension workers, developing communication strategies, cost-benefit analyses, and land health surveillance. This includes developing an SLM manual and database, training field agents in assessment and monitoring methods, and surveying degradation at pilot sites. The goal is to increase adoption of sustainable practices and improve soil health, food security, and resilience over the long term.
