Food sufficiency is linked to nutrition sufficiency which presumes access to food and the ability of the human body to absorb the nutritional value of the food consumed. However food production is inconceivable without water. It requires substantial volumes of water to generate a unit of farm produce. For instance; one kilogram of rice needs 2300litres of water; while the production of one kilogram of beef requires 22 thousand litres of water
