AB In the Peruvian Andes, climate change is causing increasingly severe and frequent droughts, in a context of social tensions for access to water between different domestic, agricultural and industrial users. Myriad wetlands (especially peatlands in the high Andes) play a fundamental role in water storage and regulation during droughts. However, this role is reduced by the degradation of these ecosystems, in particular because of overgrazing. In this situation, government institutions, NGOs and local communities have developed various adaptation measures, such as the ecological restoration of wetlands, traditional water management practices or technological infrastructure.
