Socio-economic analysis of rotational woodlot system in Shinyanga, Tanzania

Logging has created detrimental effects in regions like Shinyanga, Tanzania. Soil conservation and afforestation programs have been going on for two decades without much success. Recently agroforestry practices have shown potential to correct deforestation and increase agricultural production. The objective of the study presented in this thesis, was to examine the profitability of rotational woodlots technology, assess factors determining its implementation and identify farmers' problems in the region. The major surveys conducted are described and results analyzed and discussed.
