ICRAF, Nairobi, 21-22 November 1999 %A Place F %A Waruhiu A N %X A workshop was held in Nairobi (Kenya) in 1999 to assess options for biodiversity management through integration of agricultural and forestry activities. Participants from 6 countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe) discussed 4 major issues: (1) linkages between agriculture and forestry, and opportunities for a greater integration of the 2 sectors; (2) major constraints at various stakeholder levels that inhibit the forging of closer links between agriculture and forestry; (3) the identification of information gaps that prevent closer integration and improved management of biodiversity; and (4) the search for solutions; key questions here were how agriculture and forestry can feature more prominently in biodiversity planning and policy; the major impediments to implementing biodiversity policy; and the specific role that research could play.
