Soil changes under agroforestry (SCUAF): a predictive model AU Young A AU Cheatle R J AU Muraya P AB The paper describes the objectives, structure and functioning of a computerized model for prediction of soil changes under specified agroforestry systems within given environments. It provides estimates of changes in soil organic matter, represented by carbon, and soil erosion, together with the response of plant growth and harvest to soil changes. The model is intended to assist in the design of agroforestry systems, for research or development, by predicting the effects of alternative design and management options. Inputs to the model cover the physical environment, the agroforestry system (spatial or rotational structure, removals) and initial plant growth. Outputs are estimates, for any specified period, of changes in soil humus carbon, erosion, plant growth response, and harvest. Examples of modelling are given, including spatial and rotational systems, and application to non-agroforestry systems. The model operates on MS-DOS/PC-DOS microcomputers and is available on diskette ";
