A technical workshop was convened in Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil over the period March18th through March 25th, 1997, in order to more clearly define the objectives of socioeconomic orsocial science and policy research associated with Phase II of the GEF-funded Alternatives toSlash-and-Burn Agriculture (ASB) research program, and to discuss in detail the analyticalmethods and fieldwork required to meet these objectives, both within and across the three ASBsites represented at the meeting — Brazil, Indonesia, and Cameroon.
