CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Anthropogenic activities around the Mt Kenya ecosystem were steadily increasing as the rate of population growth continued to rise and people strived to meet their socio-economic needs through various land uses. However, in the face of rapid land use changes and the concurrent effects of climate change better approaches to utilization and management of the landscape were necessary to give some guarantee of long-term sustainability of this critical ecosystem. Management decisions, especially those concerning the ecosystem and society, are decisions made under uncertainty that could lead to scale impact mismatches. Understanding and linking socio-economic variables to ecosystem process models could help in coming up with acceptable functional landscape stewardship and environmental management strategies to climate change.
