Lahan Gambut: potensi untuk pertanian dan aspek lingkungan

One of the targets of agricultural land expansion in Indonesia is peatlands. However, peatland clearing changes the ecosystem and depletes carbon stores and eliminates its ability to store water. With considerable sacrifice in terms of environmental quality, peatland use for agriculture provides relatively less economic benefits compared to mineral land. This book provides a brief description of the nature of peatlands, its potential for agriculture, environmental risks and some considerations regarding the use and conservation of peatlands. It is hoped that the book which is the result of cooperation between Balai Penelitian Tanah (Balittanah), World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF), Plantation Research Institute of Indonesia (LRPI) and University of Hohenheim (Germany) will be one of the considerations in the management and development of peatland in the future.
