A new approach to developing clonal cultivars using simple vegetative propagation techniques is proving promising. Current issues under investigation include appropriate strategies for adoption by farmers in remote villages, sources of suitable germplasm, selection techniques, farmer adoption, and the management of farmers- rights. Case studies with Prunus africana and Dacryodes edulis are presented. ";
