CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Effects of weeding regimes and crop spacing on the performance of soybean [Glycine max. (L.) Merrill]

The experiment reported herein was undertaken at Ayepe in Osun State, Nigeria (7 17'N; 4 17'E)during 1992 and 1993 cropping seasons. The objective of the study was to investigate the effect of weding regime and spacing on soybean performance. The experimental design was 3 x 3 randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatments were three interrow spacing (50, 75 and 100 cm), and three weeding regimes (no-weeding, one-weeding, and two weedings). Results indicated that weed density and biomass decreased with crop growth due to canopy closure. Greater weed suppresion was achieved at 50cm than 75 cm and 100 cm spacings.
