AB Approaches to soil conservation have undergone considerable change in recent years. Conventional methods, such as terraces, ditch-and-bank structures and grass strips, are technically effective in controlling erosion, but often fail because they are not adopted or maintained by farmers. The emphasis is now upon biological control, and on working with the willing cooperation of farmers. One promising alternative is the use of methods based on agroforestry.
