New methods improve quality of tree seedlings

The most important aspect of tree seedling quality is the ability of the seedling to establish quickly in the field and give desired products and services early (Jaenicke, 1999). To establish well in the field, a seedling needs a strong root system that is not injured or coiled. To achieve this, seedlings need to be raised properly in nurseries. Most common tree species do not need to stay in the nursery for long. Some seedlings, however, take a longer time in the nursery, either because they are slow-growing species or have been grafted or asexually propagated. It is important to consider these factors in order to achieve a cost-effective seedling production system
