CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

The impact of trade and macroeconomic policies of frontier deforestation

For this particular slide series we mainly draw on published and ongoing research carried out by the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), which the principal author of the lecture note and slide series is affiliated to. For most of a decade, CIFOR has carried out a tropics-wide research programme on the “underlying causes of deforestation”. The empirical results from this programme are the main source of knowledge for these slide series.
