Contribution to the domestication of Sclerocarya birrea and Lannea microcarpa: provenance trials

Indigenous tree species play a great role in socioeconomic lives of the Sahelian people, yet very little is known on the biological and silvicultural aspects of these species, an this causes some shortfalls in their use in reforestation. The objective of the study presented here is to through light on germination, growth and survival of rate of two indigenous species, i.e. Sclerocarya birrea and Lannea microcarpa. The trials were conducted both on station and on farm. The methodologies described and the results discussed. Some recommendations for further research are presented.
