s:1186:"%T World Agroforestry Centre China Programme: a review of activities, 2002-2007 %A World Agroforestry %X Since its inception in August 2002, the World Agroforestry Centre’s China Programme (ICRAF-China) has grown from a staff of two and a scoping budget to a legally registered office with more than 15 full-time and a number of part-time staff, a broad set of programme activities, and a diverse group of donors. This report reviews ICRAF-China’s activities over the past five years. It is not intended to be a formal review, but rather an informative and readable account of ICRAF’s experience in China. The report is organized into three sections. The first section provides an overview of the context and scope of ICRAF’s activities in China. Section two focuses on three specific ICRAF-China projects, describing their background and activities in greater detail. The final section offers a critical perspective, based on conversations with ICRAF-China staff and partners, on the strengths and weaknesses of ICRAF’s approach in China over the past 5 years and, more broadly, on the rolesplayed by international and local non-government organizations in rural China.
