Dien Bien, Son La and Yen Bai provinces are located in the mountainous Northwestern part of Vietnam. These total land area is covers about 3 million ha and has a population of about 2.4 million. At the moment, Dien Bien, Son La and Yen Bai provinces are receiving the assist from government, NGOs, donors and private sectors through different projects, which promote trees and crops' production. Since 2011, ICRAF implemented the "Agroforestry for Livelihood of Smallholder Farmers in the Northwest Vietnam" project, aimed to improve the performance of the smallholder farming system through agroforestry.
