The major challenge facing the livestock sector and dairy sub-sector in particular is to satisfy the rising demand for livestock products. To meet the demand for meat and milk products, livestock productivity will need to increase significantly. Availability and access to feed resources is one of the major factors limiting livestock productivity. The problem of feeds in Rwanda include deficiency in animal feed, both in terms of quality and quantity. This arises from poor and few pastures, water shortage, poor quality of commercialized feeds and limited use of agricultural by products.
