s:914:"TI The diagnosis and design approach to agroforestry project planning and implementation: examples from western Kenya AU Scherr S J AB The article covers the diagnosis and design (D&D) approach to developing appropriate agroforestry technologies begins with land-user knowledge, practice and objectives. Through "diagnosis" of the land-use system, agroforestry options are identified. Development of suitable technology designs which specify components, arrangements and management for particular users, sites and functions involves review of existing information, then experimental research, and field monitoring of farmer trials to generate "missing" design information. Proposed technology designs are validated through on-farm testing. Once validated designs are disseminated, farmers adopt and adapt them, leading to new problems and opportunities for agroforestry technology re-diagnosis and re-design ";
