CIFOR–ICRAF publishes over 750 publications every year on agroforestry, forests and climate change, landscape restoration, rights, forest policy and much more – in multiple languages.

CIFOR–ICRAF addresses local challenges and opportunities while providing solutions to global problems for forests, landscapes, people and the planet.

We deliver actionable evidence and solutions to transform how land is used and how food is produced: conserving and restoring ecosystems, responding to the global climate, malnutrition, biodiversity and desertification crises. In short, improving people’s lives.

Protocol guide for major research questions: empirical research

In Phase 3 of AHI, we are embarking on a process in which different research designs and data collection techniques will be used in order to: a) better capture actions involved in the development of new work approaches, b) conduct research on development processes, and c) better understand and work with social, policy and biophysical dimensions at "landscape" and farm system scales. These areas are new for most of us; therefore, the AHI regional team decided that a new or revised "protocol format" would be useful to assist site teams (and others) to expand upon their work plans and more thoroughly think through and write down the details of the research design.
